#thankfulfor: they way technology connects us
Something I’ll always be thankful for are the immense avenues we have available to us to communicate with people in our lives. Tonight I got to interact with three awesome people in three different ways:
- I’m thankful for real face to face communication: Tonight I had dinner with Erin at Coffee Shop in Union Square. It’s a pretentious place where all the waitresses are models and the food isn’t mind-blowing, but it’s somewhat of a New York staple. You just have to go here. Erin and I chatted about New York and work and life, and it was just wondeful. I can’t wait to hang out again.
- I’m thankful for the telephone: Dear Alexander Graham Bell, thank you for inventing the telephone. Seriously. The minute I walked in the door tonight, my phone rang. Exhausted, I sat down on the couch and saw that it was Carla calling! She’s one of my dearest friends in the city, but ironically, we don’t get to see each other too often. The phone is really one of our primary forms of communication, despite living about 2.5 miles apart. We spent over an hour on the phone catching up on life and deciding that we’re probably too idealistic for our own good (hey, someone’s gotta do it!). In a city that makes life so hectic, sometimes all you need is a phone call to slow things down.
- I‘m thankful for video chatting: My sister Molly is moving to Malawi Africa next month do do missions work. It’s crazy and I’m so excited for her. While she’s gone, she’s going to keep a blog to keep friends and family up to date on her life, but she needed help getting her blog set up. We video chatted for about an hour and discussed how to make her blog better, more organized and to tell the story she wants to tell. We got it kicked off to a good start and I’m excited to have the opportunity to help her.
