a year in photos.
(I originally posted this on my photo blog, but couldn’t reblog the post in its entirety, hence, I’m copy and pasting it here.)
2010 was the perfect year to do the 365 Challenge. I dubbed 2010 the “Year of the Astronaut” because I was ready to spread my wings and soar. It’s a good thing I was ready, because 2010 was an eventful year full of traveling, transition and...

The Kinds of People You Can Date →
“The people you date aren’t necessarily the people you end up loving and that’s okay. There will be different kinds of people who enter your life at certain times. You date someone who hates you when you hate yourself. Afterwards, you date someone who loves you too much to make it all better. The goal is to eventually have your shit sorted out so you can love someone just because they’re...

Generation tech: More kids can play computer games... →
If you were in any doubt that technology is now a fundamental part of kids’ lives, these statistics prove it: 69 percent of children aged 2-5 can use a computer mouse, but only 11 percent can tie their own shoelaces. More young children know how to play a computer game (58 percent) than swim (20 percent) or ride a bike (52 percent). There is no gender divide. Boys and girls under the age of 5...

The next crop of interesting jobs for Gen-Y, centering around data and engagement. The jobs listed here are aligned with the direction and changing landscape of digital and I’d love to see what a company that implements these positions and skill-sets looks like.

field notes: NY Tech Meet Up January 2011
At the January NY Tech Meetup there was a great line-up of innovative tech demos. Some were definitely more awesome than others, but you could tell that everyone demoing something was very passionate about their product.
Here’s my thoughts on a few of the projects demo’d:
dump.fm ”dump.fm is a exciting tool for the internet; allowing pictures to be used for realtime...

Over-ambitious plans for the day:
Brunch w/bestie from high school at Uptown Lounge
Jam out on the guitar for a bit
Waste time on the internet looking at randomly awesome things
Sort through e-mail
Go buy a warm coat at Macy’s (thanks, MLK sales!)
Figure out how my health insurance works and make a doctor appointment since I’ve developed a nasty cold after being sick for 3 weeks (oh, how I miss the ease of being...

Facebook Wins Relatively Few Friends in Japan →
Facebook users in Japan (or lack thereof): It’s a quick read and pretty interesting. Like, apparently in the Japanese version of Facebook you’re able to display your blood type, a popular personality trait. Only 2% of internet users in Japan use Facebook, largely due to the culture’s desire for anonymity online. With the release of “The Social Network” in Japan this week, it will be...

Hola Caperucita Roja
– Today in a creepy cat calling manner, an older Hispanic gentleman (inspired by my red coat) approached me with, “Hola Caperucita Roja” (translation: “Hello Little Red Riding Hood.”). To this I responding with a burst of laughter. I’ll give him an A for effort? I should...

We've all been here. "Better Living" →
A great post from Laurie from Your Ill-fitting Overcoat. An excerpt:
“And suddenly, I’m crying, standing over the sink, Playtex gloves and an apron at my waist, and I feel so tired and alone. And I’m doing this sort of dainty housewife cry and suddenly I start to laugh, because I look like such a cliche: apron at my waist and my Playtex gloves, crying at the kitchen sink. And...

snow on a friday in nyc
Good morning. It’s snowing and about 30 degrees. I decided not to wear pants today.
Thank goodness for this huge scarf and hooded pea-coat. Just call me Red Riding Hood (the barista at Starbucks did today).
And, despite having freezing legs (in the name of fashion!), my new boots kept my feet super toasty on my commute.
96th Street and 3rd Avenue, or more accurately: home.

This is amazing and beautiful. Need inspiration or... →
Click the link above and read this story. You’ll probably shed a few tears, but you’ll be in such awe that people (young people, at that) are still capable of such selflessness.
“You couldn’t help but be struck by the painful contrast between the two boys: The robust athlete cradling the pale, helpless child; the young man preparing to go out into the world carrying someone who...

11 Trends for 2011 →
These 11 examples are pretty spot on. If you have a few minutes, check out this post. Dan, the author even included an “Implications for Brands” section under each trend, giving them examples of how to move leverage these trends.
Some trends that I’ll especially have my eye on include:
-Monetization (how can brands make money with their online endeavors?)
-Technology for self...
