“I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.’” -Kurt Vonnegut The actual advice here is technically a quote from Kurt Vonnegut’s “good uncle” Alex, but Vonnegut was nice enough to pass it on at speeches and in A Man Without A Country. Though he was sometimes derided as too gloomy and...

weekend recap: fast and slow
With the amount I’ve been working lately, I’m not surprised that I had the energy to do everything that I did this weekend. Nonetheless, this is New York City and sleep is for the weary. So, with out further ado, here’s the first segment of my new weekly series, “weekend recap.” Friday Around 7pm, I was still at the office and texted my friend Josh one word: dinner....

10 Reasons Running Doesn’t Suck As Much As You... →
Just what I needed to hear as I’m losing all motivation to train for this upcoming half marathon: Non-runners will sit on the couch and call you crazy. Those folks, sadly, will never learn what their bodies are capable of. You, on the other hand, will die knowing you completely, totally, unabashedly used up the body that was loaned to you. That’s not crazy. That’s freakin’ awesome.

Cold War Kids v Florence + The Machine
As of late, I’ve been listening to the Cold War Kids NON-STOP. Like, I can’t stop. Circa 2006, I totally loved CWK, but they’ve fallen off my radar in the past few years. When my roommate was listening to the new Florence + the Machine album, I heard a cover of “Hospital Beds” and thus started my recent Cold War Kids bender. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of...

Are you still rolling your eyes at Foursquare?...
I’m currently trying to consolidate things I’ve written professionally from their various presences across the Web to one main hub. I was going through the Ad+Geek blog that I contributed to while at JWT and found this little gem from Josh: In the category of “things most people learned in 2009,” it turns out that Foursquare is only as interesting as you are. The second your check-in...

#thankfulfor: unexpected visits from out of town...
“All I want to do is go to the gym and cry.” I told Andrea tonight as we were approaching our 10th hour of work. Coming back to work from from the holidays is rough, especially when you’re walking into a short week with three big deliverables due. My teammate and I put in a lot of extra hours this week and by the end of the evening, I could hardly see straight.  I had a lot of...

#thankfulfor: they way technology connects us
Something I’ll always be thankful for are the immense avenues we have available to us to communicate with people in our lives. Tonight I got to interact with three awesome people in three different ways:  I’m thankful for real face to face communication: Tonight I had dinner with Erin at Coffee Shop in Union Square. It’s a pretentious place where all the waitresses are models...

Why New York's Life Expectancy Is the Highest in... →
Some days I think that living in NYC will kill me, but apparently, it’s actually giving me a longer life. Well, for that I’m thankful. The article is a quick, interesting read; here are a few reasons they cite that us New Yorkers (yes, I’m including myself in the “New Yorker” category) live longer: Policy: Anti-smoking and anti-obesity campaigns, higher taxes on ...

#thankfulfor: first of 2012
Last spring I started my #thankfulfor series and continued it through the summer. With the arriving of the new year, I thought I’d re-introduce this practice, aligning with my “recognize joy more often” goal for 2012.  Here are a few things I’m thankful for today: Useful technology. Check out the app ZocDoc. It helps you find doctors in your area who take your insurance...
